Tasty gift ideas: Some F-M restaurants make it easy to send local favorites to people across the country

FARGO – Having a hard time figuring out the perfect holiday gift for that former Fargo-Moorhead resident in your life?

Try sending a taste of their favorite local restaurant for a one-of-a-kind present.

While it isn’t the norm for local joints, some restaurants do make it easy to ship the flavors of home across the country.

The Red Pepper, a longtime favorite in Grand Forks that opened a location in Fargo this spring, has long touted its willingness to mail a grinder kit anywhere in the continental United States.

All of the ingredients a Red Pepper fan would need to make four everything grinders – including the restaurant’s signature white sauce, lettuce, hot sauce, ham, salami, turkey, taco meat, Swiss cheese and Colby cheese – can be ordered for $40.

The price may seem steep, but it includes a $27 cooler deposit that’s automatically refunded to the gift giver’s credit card once the restaurant gets its cooler back. Red Pepper packs everything separately to keep it fresh, and the overnight shipping makes sure the food is still tasty when it arrives.

To order grinders or Red Pepper’s chip sauce, visit shop.redpepper.com.

Or maybe the person on your gift list would rather get a slice of some local pizza – and Happy Joe’s Pizza and Ice Cream is ready to help.

The Iowa-based chain has about 60 restaurants in five states, but those former F-M residents who don’t live in the Midwest anymore won’t be able to find a location near them.

Happy Joe’s will ship pizza Monday through Thursday for next-day delivery through FedEx, with orders packed with dry ice to stay frozen and ready to be baked and served upon arrival.

It’s not a cheap gift option – a three-pack of large pizzas is $165, not including the $20 shipping and handling fee, while a six-pack is $255. If you’re ready to splurge, visit www.happyjoes.com and click on the link to ship a pizza to a friend.

For the caffeine lover on your list, consider sending their favorite coffee blend from Babb’s Coffee House. The beans are roasted and airlifted from Seattle each week to the Fargo and Jamestown locations, but those far away from here can still get their fix with the gift of some of those same beans.

Babb’s charges $18.99 per bag of coffee, not including a $5 shipping charge. To order, visit www.babbscoffeehouse.com/coffee.html.
