Earl R. Swanson died at the Emeritus Assisted Living Facility in Mesa, Arizona on November 1, 2013.

Earl was born June 23, 1919 to John and Mary (Danielson) Swanson in Hancock, Minnesota.

Earl was born June 23, 1919 to John and Mary (Danielson) Swanson in Hancock, Minnesota.

He worked as a crane operator for the Great Northern Railroad in North Dakota and Minnesota for all of his working years. He was initiated into the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons and later became a member of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (Shriners International). He was a devoted member of these fraternal organizations for many years.

He married Marcella Sorlie Peterson Halvorson in July, 1994. They lived their lives together in Fredrick, Wisconsin and Arizona.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Marsh, and two grandchildren, Christie and Steven Marsh and three sisters, Mildred Wolff, Virginia Ellman, and Phyllis Johnson.

He was preceded by his parents, a brother, Francis Swanson and a sister, Gloria Dugan.

Marcella Sorlie Peterson Halvorson Swanson died at the Dessert Springs Assisted Living Facility in Mesa, Arizona on March 5, 2014.

Marcella was born January 25, 1917 to Martin and Susan (Symes) Sorlie in Benson County, North Dakota. She was baptized on December 7, 1920 and confirmed at Fairview Lutheran Church rural Maddock, North Dakota on October 25, 1953.

As a young women she married Elliott Peterson. They spent their married life together in Heimdal, North Dakota until he passed away in May, 1963. She married Clark Halvorson and they lived most of their life together in Fargo. Marcella cared for him during his kidney dialysis for several years until he died in July, 1982. She married Earl Swanson in July, 1994.

She is survived by nieces and nephews including: Linda Sorlie Warner, Duane Sorlie, Kenneth Sorlie, Sheryl Gardella, Diane Christy, Karen Kaiser, LaVay Olson, Wesley Olson, and LuAnn Indergaard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and three brothers, Weyburn Sorlie, Leonard and Lloyd Olson and one sister, Velva Johnansen, and three nephews, Kenley Olson, Norace Olson, and Donald Sorlie.

A joint memorial service will be held on July 14, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at First Lutheran Church 619 Broadway in Fargo with Pastor Lowell Halvorson, officiating. Inurnment will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo at 3:00 P.M.
